citizens of Duk Padiet at home and afar   4 comments

Posted at 9:47 pm in Journal

Dear brothers and sisters, fellow citizens of Duk Padiet at home and afar,
please accept my humble greetings in the name of our beloved community, the
Dukridge and its inhabitants. I am truly inspired today to share my personal
thoughts without offense or hurting your ears and feelings.

My people, when the Sudanese first civil war launched in 1955-72, our community
played a significant role in liberating the South from the tyranny of Islam. Our
people fought tirelessly without turning their backs to the enemy until peace was
reached in the presence of our uncle Paul Awel, in the Addis Ababa Agreement of
1972.

People of Duk Padiet worked together and collectively fought their common enemy
and triumphantly overcame them. If an enemy became aggressive and approached our
territory with disregard in those days of our highly respected chief Monykuer
Mabur, and even in the days when he handed over the throne to his son, our
intrinsic chief Manyok Monykuer Mabur, we were living graciously knowing only raan
ater da in the border.

When the Sudan People Liberation Arms/Movement, took up arms against the Khartoum
regime in 83, our people were the very first to join the revolutionary war of self
determination, and I vividly remember, our uncle Joel Maker Deng was among the
Founding Fathers of the SPLA/M. Battalion 4 and 5, and so forth ,were composed
of mieth ke Hol. None of our seniors and juniors, high and low ranking members of
our community took unnecessary action which would have had spoiled the reputation
of our community. I am personally very thankful for their roles in the Movement,
from the very first day the Movement was formed to the last day of the
Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) signed.

Hundreds and thousands of mieth ke Hol lost their lives in the battle field,
fighting and dying without any hesitation while the wild beasts fed on the human
flesh of the dead. My brothers and sisters, what could we do to commemorate our
heroes and heroines who have fallen asleep for the common good of our community?
What could we do to help let their living vision pass from generation to
generation? If I could visualize the disaster of 1992, which first started in Duk
Padiet, I could still reflect on the horrific death of our people although I
wasn’t there. The extermination of our people’s lives sounds like mythology to
others, but they were real difficult situations that our people have gone through.

Dear alum of Dukridge, I am writing to you as an individual, as a son of Pan-Hol,
I am writing to you as a brother and a close friend. I am particularly writing to
these one-hundred and eighty five (185) members of Duk Padiet in America, Canada,
Africa, and Australia. I am writing to you concerning the future of our community
and its next generation to come. Dear friends, I am writing this to you as part of
the solution, and regard you as problem solvers to the current situation in Duk
Padiet despite your preferences. In the history of Duk Padiet, we never ever had
chasms among ourselves, we never took up weapons such as spears, shields and
rifles against ourselves, however our main targets were our close allies who
attempted to manipulate our Toch. In the past, we loved ourselves and treated one
another with respect and courtesy.

I said earlier that I am writing to you as problem solvers and a part of the
solution to the recently emerged differences in our community. I have an open
ended question to each one of you and you need to answer it in a way that might be
applicable to you. As a son or daughter of Pan Hol, what do you think about the
anarchy in Duk Padiet? What do you think would help to bring our people’s
prospectives together despite their internal and external differences? Every other
society is enjoying their liberty, why not us? Our great people who were highly
respected and known were assassinated simply like that for no reason. The killing
of our own people lowered the reputation of our community in the eyes of other
communities. However, our differences might harm and jeopardize the future of our
community if we don’t take the legitimate account to resolve them.

Duk Padiet is the richest community in Jongle State, we have a lot of natural
resources, minerals and valuable resources such as liet e kueer nhom and so on.
We’re a more dependable and approachable community than others. I am humbly asking
you in the name of God, the creator of our human life, in the name of God who
knows all our desires, and concealed needs, to pray brothers and sisters for
solidarity in the community, for peace and reconciliation, for forgiveness, for
acceptance and the various needs of our human lives.

There would be no Hol if Duor is not a part of Hol, and there would be no Hol, if
Pathel is not a part of Hol, and so on and so forth, our togetherness helps us in
so many ways which I could not count, therefore we need one another brothers and
sisters. Please, lets work together. Our differences will take us nowhere. We’re
one family, siblings of one father and mother believe it or not; we’re one. Lets
relinquish our sectional and individuals’ differences and let us give love and
peace a chance to flourish in our midst.

For those who might be in foreign nations, please let us try to preach harmony and
an integrity to our people if you get a chance to visit home. They should know
that what happened has already happened and nobody wants to hear it or for it to
be repeated again. I am very disheartened for the loss of innocent lives. Please
pray for peace.

The future of the church in our community needs to be respected by every member
regardless of age and sex. Your relationship with God and the church is a personal
phenomena and it need not be enforced by others. Our community is a growing
community and we shall accommodate as many churches as possible if there are ways
and means. The church is where love, peace, needs and forgiveness are practiced
not harm and hatred. Being a Christan is a call and a full life discernment, but
if God calls you to be an Anglican, Episcopalian, Lutheran or Catholic, then go
for it and don’t bring confusion and conflict among the innocents. I have a deep
faith and a respect toward other denominations, if they do the will of our true
God. Dear church leaders, I am kindly begging your pardon to lead God’s people in
the ways He wants them to be led. You need to sit and workout possible solutions
for God’s people. Despite your residential location, you need to follow the Christ
example of stewardship.

Politicians, I am also begging you to represent Hol’s citizens equally either in
the parliamentary procedure or in governmental forces. However, you’re
representing the community not yourself or your family. And remember, seniors and
juniors officials, you’re our eyes and ears anywhere you’re deployed, after six
years and during the self determination period, we shall vote and we as the
community will vote for the person that will do the will of the community and not
his own will.

Students, I am encouraging you from the bottom of my heart to take more steps to
finish high school or find trade careers that would help you and the community in
the times to come. Don’t lean back, time is not waiting! Everything is achieved
through hard work and perseverance. Question: Can a success in one area in your
life compensate for failure in another? Think about it. Hereafter, I am truly
delighted to hear you guys doing academic wonders, which is a fundamental value of
our community. Please keep up your good work at school.

Teamwork! I am challenging you to develop a sense of a teamwork. We need to help
and work with whoever initiates a project in the community. We need to work
closely with Bishop Machardit, Akech Deng, Paul Mator, Mapiou Mun, and the leaders
of our community since they’re not following their own interests and benefit, but
the benefit of our community.

In conclusion, I would like you to pardon me if I hurt or offend your feelings in
one way or another; please I ask for your full forgiveness.
Our community needs our hands whether you’re at Duk Padiet or in foreign nations,
whether you’re spiritual or political leader, young or old, man or a woman, we all
need to contribute and share ideas, input and suggestions for the common good of
Duk Padiet and its inhabitants. It’s our responsibility to consolidate
misunderstanding in our community. Remember, focusing on our differences will lead
us nowhere. Please, lets work together and learn how to forgive and forget. May
God bless Hol da now and forever.

Thank you

REACTION AGAINST THE CONSPIRACY BY EPISCOPAL CHURCH OF SUDAN (ECS)

THE ANGLICAN CHURCH OF SUDAN (ACS)
REACTION AGAINST THE CONSPIRACY BY EPISCOPAL CHURCH OF SUDAN (ECS)

THE REPORT ABUOT THE PLOT FROM SOURCE EYEWITINESS
The Anglican Church of Sudan (ACS) of the diocese of Duk which was recently born
as a new denomination did not enjoy the freedom of worship spelt out clearly in
the constitution of Sudan simply because its rival, Episcopal Church of Sudan as
a denomination failed to compete spiritually and uses wrong propaganda to
disstabilise the Anglican progress in the country and more particularly in
Joungulei province (state).

For this reason the synod held by Episcopal Church of Sudan at around Mading Bor
town came out with some plots which are totally and completely unheard stories in
the history of the church in Sudan in that some statements are talking about life
threats to spearhead people like Bishop John Machar as the major leader of the
denomination in Duk Diocese. The major key problem it is not the badness of the
Church now it is Bishopric position. Therefore Nyarweng said especially the
members of Episcopal Church of Sudan it shouldnot be aperson from Hol, This
however, has resulted in the very synod of Episcopal Church of Sudan held around
late December 2005.

In connection to the above, their statements are analysed below.

1. It was resolved in the meeting that the Duk Padiet as Payam or some Payams
is to be united to the Diocese of Kongor and that 6 (six) archdeaconries were
promoted as part of Kongor Diocese.
2. According to an eyewitness source, they had proposed to have reported to
SPLM/SPLA government or the government of Sudan by writing a letter telling them
that the Anglican Church of Sudan would be banned from using a common prayer book
and as well as the bible that they should improvise their own printed bible and
prayer book
3. Eyewitnesses also stated that Ven. Machar Aweng with other four
archdeaconries had worked out their secret organization that will work to
destroying some lives. This happened because of formation of committee members
namely as Ven. Machar Aweng as chairperson, Peter Ajak as deputy, Peter Bol Riak
as Secretary, Simon Thon Garkuoth treasurer and deputied finally by Paul Majok
Anyang. According to this source they will spend some money to employ agents of
destruction or those who will kill and report back to their office for funding
their plan. This are terrorism acts on the church. Adding that the government of
Sudan is to work as a tool in stopping the Anglican Church from operating in
Southern Sudan in general.
4. Fourthly, their main target is the Hol Congregation who had the majority
followers of the new church that Southern Sudan Government should force all
congregation to the Episcopal Church of Sudan by all means.
5. Fifthly, Machar Aweng pointed at some individuals as supporters of Bishop
John Machar that he is Arab supporter, therefore, individual supporters should
take note of that.
6. They named the church to be for Duk Padiet as a community church not
universal like other churches. Meanwhile, ACS covered all southern Sudan with the
following Dioceses; Awiel, Rumbek, Yirol, Twice-East, Waat, Akobo, Nasir etc.
7. The diocese of Kongor according to them is legitimate for managing
resources in swampy and marshy areas (Toch) around Duk Padiet that they should be
developed for the benefit of Kongor Diocese in that Assistant Bishop Diing Ajang
is legitimate bishop rather than the self proclaimed Bishop John Machar .
8. Their committee to execute the ideas giving forth orders of following
people as mentioned in 3 above
Five committee members 1. Chairman – Ven. James Machar Aweng
2. Deputy chairman – Ven. Peter Ajak Majok
3. Secretary – Ven. Peter Bol Riak
4. Treasurer – Ven. Simon Thon Garkuoth
5. Deputy treasurer – Ven. Paul Majok Anyang

Moreover, Ven. James Machar Aweng concluded that he had no fear to give up the
ideas because of his birth right in Duk Padiet. Both parents are natives of the
land of Duk. That he feared nothing including imprisonment if that can happen to
him.

The humlitiating of christains in Duk County will disintegrating The Community via
the Church

We are hereby, appealing to all the citizens of Sudan to know what is happening in
the Church in Duk.It is somethings unique in the church history since the creation
of the world That christians themselves turning to politics of division instead of
uniting people from all background.
To begin with, Since the inception of the Anglican church of Sudan, the split of
the Episcopal church of Sudan. When the church has disintegrated to several
Denominations it has caused the bitterness and hatred amongst congregations from
Epicopal church of Sudan against the Anglican Church of Sudan which has led to
conspiracy for the blood shed which they have planned.
In the light of the above, the document has been extracted from an eyewitness
source with full information. It is not an assumption but facts. These are the
facts with evidence which we would like to alert all our brothers and sisters
about. It had happened in the year 2004 the SPLM/SPLA it has permitted the church
with a permit, it was rejected by the Commissioner of Duks county when he was
confronted with the document for the freedom of worship, all the elements have
stopped their false claims against the Church. Now they have come up with the plot
which is terrorism acts.
Nonetheless, the core of the problems are some in individual in Nyarweng
community those who belong to Episcopal church (ECS) These people have generated
the false propaganda. They called the church the Tribal church of Hol but the
church is universal, it is neither our church nor for an individual it is God’s.
At this point, they planned for the destruction
The illustration of the following is detailed accroding to the mentioned dates
The statements recorded to refer to individual statements spoken. on 15/12.2005.
Rev peter mabil makuei had decided to attack the Anglican congregations in Pawai
Archdeaconry on the visiting day of the Rt Rev John machar Thon. He came voilently
holding the stick for fighting, it was by good luck that one of the SPLA/SPLM
officer mr Deng mier was nearby and he intervened. He has taken both to police
station in Poktap for further investigation for Cause of the attack. By then They
were arrested for a couple of minutes and were later released. Ven Daivd maynok
Lual remained in the cell for (13) days waiting for trail. When he was released
after (13) days he went to court for the judgement, he was fined for SD 400,000.
Lastly Rev peter mabil said “I will send you ( kuien-kuien)” meaning “I will send
you gangsters to night”
On 17/12/2005 in the meeting held at Poktap . Mayen Manyok commended that the
Anglican should have boundary not to cross to other side of Nyarweng. Before
that 9/6/2005 the following persons whose names appeared below Ven David Deng
Duop, William Makuach Machot, Joseph Monykuer Kuol were arrested in Poktap
container spending many days in prison arrested by former payam administrator Mr.
Reech Deng Kuir. He rejected the document by saying it was written by rebel
leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny . unless bearing signature of former commissioner
John Duom Warabek and same statements were repeated by the deputy commissioner
Deng Lual in different occasion
Sometimes on 28/6/2005 Daniel Deng had also arrested (6) church elders with
unknown reason. He concluded that he do not want any new denomination to exist.
Shortly on the 5/7/2005. They priests were also arrested and were fines
unlawfully in the court of law. The Payam administrators overworked the priests.
The following persons who had been arrested with the reference of their fines
their names appear below:
1. Ven. David Deng Duop SD 500,000
2. Ven. David Manyok Lual SD 400,000
3. Ev. William Makuach 200,000
4. Ev. Joseph Monykuer 500,000

GRAND TOTAL SD 1,600,000
In addition to this,They were warned to remove their priest vestments and have
civilian clothe like any body around. And declared to have dismissed in their
service by labelling them as collaborators of rebel leader Dr, Riek machar
Teny.
Later in the year on the 28/11/2005 Joseph monykuer was rearrested because he
did not pay the required fines on time then he was given corporal punishment
instead of fine sentence by Lt Aleer Apam Chengkuach with 48 lashes on the
battock. Telling him to stop it that he had brought disgrace to Nyarweng.
In this regard separation was declared by the Chief Mr Chuei Leek Saying that
they have nothing to share with Hol.By then there was no longer any more
compromise left He was frank that the Bishopric position could not be taken by
Hol. He was sure of his words that in Nuer saying (Tee wuur kee mi gaathe)
meaning he is hoping that he has nothing to fear because the government is on
their side.
Finally, on the 19/12/2005 Rev Peter mawut Deng again planned an attack
againest Bishop’s team and has mobilized 15 people to shoot the Bishop ( Ba Duai
mac) meanig that I will attack him, Likewise ,the payam Administrator mr mabil
Awan repeated the same word again he was for the attack, He said that the
unacceptable Bishop should not come here again.

Last but not least,This is an open letter to every body for what might happen in
case of any the community may know It is going to be circulated to
particulars in question of mananging the country Southern Sudan.

position of the Anglican Church of Sudan as pertains to the above points.

1. We had taken seriously by writing this letter to our government in
Southern Sudan and our leaders as well for them to know what kind of situation is
prevailing in the region but as the church we had no intention as such far is
taken by our counterparts. We wanted to remain peaceful as our saviour taught us
in the bible only to win souls to Christ not to destroy as our brothers thought.
Therefore our government may take note of it and probably address it if necessary
in their capacity.

2. The Anglican Church of Sudan will remain a distinct denomination from ECS
in accordance with the constitution provision of our beloved country Southern
Sudan

3. The Anglican Church of Sudan will not allow division among its members and
their counterpart congregations. We are part of world united denominations with
some ecumenical views not a tribal church, it is catholic, more accomodative in
Southern Sudan and willing to enjoy unity of the people of southern Sudan and
Sudan in general as well.

4. Our stand in political issues were not in any way motivated in
collaboration with Arab politicians because church politics is spiritual right and
saves souls. Therefore, our stand with SPLM / SPLA since the movement begun
will remain the same as nothing will change it whatsoever.

5. In response to the usage of resources, the church does not own resources
but we are shareholders in managing resources alongside the government. Therefore,
owning resources is totally misinformation about government policies. We shall
remain shareholders not like them who claim expenditure at their own capacity.

6. Also on the accusation of the supporters, we believe in personal choice in
coming to faith not by force, more or less spirituality. We are all equal before
God. That is our belief is not less credited. We do not judge which denomitation
is better than the other.

Finally on radical decisions to be taken in things to do with fighting and
assassination are not in the terms of our reference. As a church we advocate for
peace, love and unity of our people in various denominations.
Conclusion Our last word is that the document was extracted from an eye witness
who claims responsibility. In case of any investigations that the Anglican church
of Sudan will suffer government persecution in which we do not believe.

So if that is going to happen for them to execute their plans in February
according to the document acts as a notice to all bodies in human protection in
Southern Sudan. Furthermore, our faith is not pessimistic but completely
optimistic looking to contribute in development and harmony of people of our new
country Southern Sudan.

Machar Aweng was once a supporter of Arabs. He has just joined the movement in
April 2004. He came ordained from reformed church led by Bishop Gabriel Rooric
and is currently accusing people of being supporters of Archbishop Rooric,
although he was the first man to follow the reformation of the church in norhern
Sudan, his rection was because he was promised to be Bishop of Duk Diocese this
is what has turn to be enemy against church and plaaned for conspiracy. Therefore,
his accusations cannot be valued by the Sudanese. He is a liar.

some ecumenical views not a tribal church, it is catholic, more accomodative in
Southern Sudan and willing to enjoy unity of the people of southern Sudan and
Sudan in general as well.

Sudan Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) Provisions   no comments

Posted at 6:17 pm in Journal

Sudan Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA), 9 January 2005

PROVISION RELATING TO DETAILS OF PROVISION

1) Armed Forces

The North and South are to maintain separate armed forces. There is to be the withdrawal of 91,000 government troops from the South within 2 and a half years. The SPLA has 8 months to withdraw its forces from the North. The Naivasha Protocol that forms part of the CPA outlines the details of integration: it allows for integra ted units of 21,000 soldiers (of which half will be government and half SPLA) to be formed during the 6 year interim period. They are to be deployed to sensitive areas such as the 3 dispu ted areas. These units will be commonly stationed but maintain separate command and control structures. If, after the interim period the South decides not to secede, both sides will unify into a 39,000 strong force.

2) Autonomy

The South will have autonomy for 6 years to be followed by a referendum in 2011 regarding secession from the Sudan .

3) Oil wealth

To be shared on a 50:50 basis between the Khartoum Government and the SPLA.

4) Economic issues

Two separate currencies are to be used within a dual banking system. The North will retain the Sudanese Pound while the South will opt for the Sudanese Dinar. Essentially, the dual banking system means that banks will be commonly stationed with two different windows for service.

5) Administration

Positions in the central, transitional government are to be split 70:30 in favour of the government, and 55:45 in favour of the government in the contentious areas of Abyei, the Blue Nile State and the Nuba Mountains . Bashir’s position as Head of State is entrenched and Garang is to serve as Vice-President. A government of national unity is to be formed.

6) Islamic Law

Shari’a is to remain applicable in the North and parts of the constitution are to be rewritten so that Shari’a does not apply to any non-Muslims throughout the Sudan . The status of Shari’a in Khartoum is to be decided by an elec ted assembly.

7) Other

Each territory is to use its own flags. The North will maintain use of the current Sudanese flag and the South is to introduce its own flag.
